Parents and Caregivers Need Support Too

Our practice uses a systems approach to treatment. Often there are others in the “client system” who need support in order to promote and sustain positive change within the family. We have learned that our work with our young clients is enhanced when their parents and caregivers also receive the tools and assistance they need to be successful. Our parent-focused clinicians work with their clients to explore parent-child relationships, examine familial patterns of behavior, and improve communication skills to foster collaboration and resilience.

We also recognize that adult family members may have their own challenges that need to be addressed. These may be issues that are impacting them across multiple domains including work, friendships, and general satisfaction with life. We have developed a selection of services that meet the various needs of parents and caregivers with flexibility and empathy.

Services for Parents and Caregivers

  • This group helps parents and caregivers build confidence and strengthen parenting skills (and reduce feelings of isolation) through open and supportive conversations about the challenges of raising gifted and twice exceptional children and adolescents. • Sometimes parents and caregivers need additional, ongoing, one-on-one support in order to address longstanding parenting challenges. Contact us to learn more about ongoing parent coaching to address a range of issues, with particular emphasis on parenting gifted and twice exceptional children including:

    - Oppositional and demand-avoidant behavior in children

    - Supporting a child who is experiencing anxiety or depression

    - Parenting children with autism, ADHD, and learning differences including giftedness

    - Supporting children and adolescents who identify as LGBTQIA+

  • Parents and caregivers may need support to address longstanding challenges that may be unrelated to parenting and that affect parents in multiple life domains such as relationships, work, and personal fulfillment. Contact us to learn more about how we can work with you to address issues related to personal growth and well-being including:

    - Adjustment disorder

    - Anxiety

    - Depression

    - Intergenerational trauma

    - Understanding one’s own neurodivergence

  • While many parent training resources offer effective, research-based strategies to promote behavioral change, sometimes parents find that implementation is difficult, especially when a child's behavior triggers feelings of frustration, anger, or self-doubt. Addressing Conflict with Your Gifted/2e Child focuses on helping participants identify their own strengths and challenges when it comes to parenting their gifted and 2e children and will introduce concepts and strategies that can be used to build a more mindful approach to parent-child interactions. The goal is to create self-awareness which, with continued practice and reinforcement, will reduce unexpected and challenging behaviors, and increase effective communication and positive relationship building. Upon completion of the four-part workshop, participants have the option to continue working with the coach or join an ongoing parenting group to to build upon newly acquired skills and insights.
